TRAVEL INSURANCE
Nothing is life is certain. If you live in the UK, you can have an accident in your own home, but at least you know that you will be treated at the hospital without having to mortgage your house first. So why is it that when we go abroad, we have to think twice about taking out insurance? Maybe you are just planning a short trip and because you are only going to be away for a few hours, it’s not worth spending money on insurance. However, you could fall ill at ANYTIME, you could have an accident (slipping on the deck of a ferry) or you could have your luggage stolen (whilst you are sleeping on a train journey). These incidents don’t need hours – they can happen in seconds – but the results can last for years.
Having paid thousands for your trip, you or a close relative becomes ill the day before you are due to leave and you cannot go. If you are not insured – you will probably lose a great deal of money. Imagine that during a wild day out at, say Disney in Orlando, you suffer a heart attack and need a major operation – could you afford the cost? We have all seen hospital programmes that have highlighted the dilemma of the ‘patient’ who cannot have the treatment that would be preferable because the hospital required payment prior to treatment.
